Can we all agree on something?
Travel is amazing. Flying sometimes isn't.
I got a text in the middle of the night from a client who usually flies business class. Fortunately, their international business class flights were completely fine. This was just a flight between two destinations during their trip.
But that doesn't make it suck any less.
Somehow all five of their seat assignments had been dropped. They couldn't check in online, and suddenly all five travelers were scattered throughout the plane in middle seats.
Talk about a frustrating way to start the day.
The thing is, you can do everything right. Book early. Select seats. Set an alarm to check in the minute it opens. Have a travel advisor watching your reservation.
And then the airline changes aircraft, seat assignments disappear, online check-in won't work, and chaos ensues.
As a travel advisor, these are the messages I hate getting because I know how disappointing it feels. I want your trip to be perfect. I want every connection to work, every room to be right, and every seat assignment to stay exactly where it belongs. And honestly, I don't want you to think I did something wrong. I would never put my clients in these situations on purpose.
The reality is that sometimes things happen that are outside of anyone's control. Airlines change schedules, equipment, and seat maps every single day. Most of the time everything works exactly as planned. Sometimes it doesn't.
So if you're currently reading this from Seat 32B, squeezed between two strangers while your travel companions are scattered throughout the aircraft, just know you're not alone.
Take a deep breath.
